Ongoing partnerships in a global mission.

The Center for Mission is charged with promoting and coordinating the global mission outreach of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Global Solidarity

“A parish reaching beyond its own
members and beyond national boundaries is a truly ‘catholic’ parish.”
U.S. Bishops' statement, "Called to Global Solidarity:InternationalChallenges for U.S.
Parishes." 1997

Cross-cultural, international mission has been integral to church life since its very beginning, primarily through "professional missionaries" who were "sent out." Recently a new, grassroots form of mission has developed: sharing from one parish to another through the building of partnerships.

In 1997 the U.S. Catholic Bishops wrote a pastoral letter entitled Called to Global Solidarity: International Challenges for U.S. Parishes which invites parishes to become more conscious of and connected to our friends around the world. The bishops suggest developing parish partnerships as a means of generating global solidarity.

Partnering involves visits to one another's parishes to really get to know our brothers and sisters, share their joys and their struggles, their gifts and their culture, and hopes and dreams. Parish partnerships are an invitation to live our lives and faith in a spirit of global solidarity.

We serve as a primary contact resource for facilitating Archdiocesan and parish partnerships and short-term immersion experiences.

Parish Twinning

Parish Twinning is a grassroots phenomenon matching parishes and global communities. It has been steadily growing in our archdiocese since it began in the mid-80's. Today over 40 of the archdiocese's 230 parishes have some form of relationship with an international parish or entity, and more than 20 parishes have a partnership with another parish within the archdiocese.
